This course is designed for school children ages 8 and older. The entire course covers the main periods of human history, emphasizing the essential role of art in the development of a civilization. Each topic includes:
- Historical characteristic of the period (timeline, main dates, events, names).
- The way people perceive and understand the world (religious believes, mythology).
- Artistic characteristics of a period (main artworks, names, styles).
The objective of the course is but also to teach:
- The meaning of an art work.
- How an artworks expresses the human experience.
- Why art and the sense of beauty are different for various epochs and civilizations.
We believe that with such knowledge children will become more receptive to the infinite diversity of the world.
This year we will explore the topics related to the history of the Ancient World:
Note: This will be the fourth year of the Art History program in Campanella. As our experience has shown, solid results are achieved when parents are involved in the educational process. We don’t have textbooks, but each session is equipped with a power-point presentation also made available for independent home review – the only mandatory homework (unless, of course, children wish to work on special, additional projects).
